Happy Mother’s Day! This meeting will be the last official act on Plano City Council for me, Anthony Ricciardelli, Kayci Prince, and Rick Smith, as we vote to canvass the May 3rd election results. But as I told you, I plan to still deliver these previews and recaps until my election for Collin County Commissioner next year. Also, Tuesday at 6:30 PM is my annual free-to-the-public Property Tax  101 class with Scott Grigg. RSVP here to learn what to do about those appraisals you just received.

You can sign up online to speak at council meetings in person or via Zoom online at this link up to 15 minutes before the scheduled meeting, which is typically at the 7:00 Regular Meeting. You may alternatively share your thoughts by emailing the council members any time at our email addresses here, or by 4:00 PM the day of the meeting at councilcomments@plano.gov. The council meeting will be live-streamed on PlanoTV.org and on the City of Plano Facebook page.

(Review agenda here) Notable Consent Agenda items are at the bottom of this post.

  • Proclamation:  National Public Works Week is May 18-24, 2025, where we recognize the professionals who manage the infrastructure of the city
  • Proclamation:  Memorial Day is May 26, 2025
  • Proclamation:  May is National Historic Preservation Month
  • Proclamation:  Bike to Work Day is May 16, and Bike to Work Month is May, where we encourage citizens to bike to work (good thing it isn’t August 16th. Just sayin’)
  • Proclamation: We have a lot of proclamations this meeting

Comments of Public Interest: anyone can speak for up to three minutes, with 30 total minutes allotted for this segment.

Items for Individual Consideration

  • Item (1): $16,139,315 for Sewer Improvements Dallas North Trunk – Phase 2, for approximately 6,980 linear feet of 36-inch and 42-inch wastewater line, approximately 1,250 linear feet of slip-lined pipe, one aerial crossing, four hand tunnels, and a partridge in a pear tree. This is a whole lot of sewer along Plano Parkway between Coit Road and Independence Parkway. Interesting side note: when you wonder why certain road repair takes so long, oftentimes it’s because water and sewer lines run underneath the road, and we’re doing work to them simultaneously, or at least need to be careful that we don’t damage them.
  • Item (2): to approve the taking of a portion of Hoblitzelle Park by abandoning an existing sanitary sewer easement at the dedicated parkland and replacing it with a revised permanent sanitary sewer easement for the Russell Creek Interceptor pipeline rehabilitation project
  • Item (3): to approve the taking of a portion of Legacy Greenbelt Trail to approve a permanent sanitary sewer and access easement for a manhole replacement project
