Tonight, at 5:00 PM, after nearly five years, the citizens petition for a referendum on the Plano Tomorrow Plan will finally be presented to the Plano City Council. In a special joint meeting with Planning & Zoning, council will decide the fate of the Plano Tomorrow. You can read my prior updates on this here.
While the council chambers aren’t yet open for public attendance, the meeting will be livestreamed on PlanoTV.org and on the City of Plano Facebook page.
If you wish to speak (virtually) at tonight’s meeting, you may register here by 3:00 PM today. Please register ONLY if you wish to speak. You may alternatively share your thoughts by emailing councilcomments@plano.gov by 3:00 PM Monday. Read the agenda here.
After Executive Session (if needed), the petition will be presented. The options then, per the city charter, are as follows:
- Council will repeal the Plano Tomorrow Plan outright—if this option is taken, we then have the decision of whether to reinstate the plan in place immediately before passage of Plano Tomorrow, or simply have no plan in place, leading potentially to a moratorium on zoning
- Council will put a referendum vote on a future election ballot—if this option is taken, it will send a very confusing message, since we are already well underway in the process of creating a new comprehensive plan
Tune in tonight to the exciting series finale!
Oh, by the way, we’ll have a whole Grants Funding Workshop after the joint meeting. It’s a double feature!
